Important about permits issued before January 1st 2015

Work and residence permits issued before January 1st 2015 differs from the current conditions in some important aspects.

Please read below and be aware what applies to your situation.

Researchers and academic staff

Please note that as a researcher with a work and residence permit issued before January 1st 2015:

Please refer to your work and residence permit (the letter from the immigration authorities) or contact your HR-contact for further information on your conditions.

In most cases the present (as of January 1st 2015) conditions under the Fast track-scheme for employed researchers will be more favourable to you.

You can adopt the new conditions by applying for an work and residence permit under the Fast track-scheme. This will automatically convert your permit to the current conditions.

Contact your your HR-contact if you are considering adopting the current conditions.

PhD student enrolled and employed by AU

Please note that as an employed PhD student having a work and residence permit issued before January 1st 2015:

  • Your residence and work permit will expire on the day you were expected to hand in your thesis. It does not cover the period until your defend. To get a residence permit covering you for the period until your defend you can have your residence permit extended by six months counting from the day you hand in your thesis. This is done by submitting an application for extension. Read more about how to apply.
  • You are not allowed to take up additional work without applying for work and residence permit for sideline employment.
  • You are not free to work both outside Denmark - within the duration of our permit - without your permit lapsing. Your permit will lapse if you give up your Danish address or travels abroad for a longer period. Read more about how to keep your residence permit from lapsing if you leave Denmark.
  • If you find a new job while you are a guest at AU, you must apply for a new residence and work permit. However, you may begin your new job before you have received your new permit, provided that you submit your application no later than the day you start your new job.

You can adopt to the new conditions by applying for an extension of your current permit. This will automatically convert your permit to the new conditions. You are, however, not required to extend the period of your permit to apply.

PhD students enrolled (but not employed) by AU
