Where to get tax assistance

Aarhus University cannot give personal advice on taxation issues. The International Academic Staff services at International Centre will be able to assist you in finding general information about tax rules. If you need tax assistance you can contact the Danish tax authorities. If you need more specific tax guidance you can contact the PriceWaterhouseCoopers firm of auditors, but only following approval from your immediate superior.

Taxation assistance from the Danish tax authorities

The taxation rules are changing over time and it is therefore the Danish tax authorities -SKAT that can give you up to date information on your taxation.

SKAT consists of a main centre and a number of local tax centres all over Denmark. There is one tax authority which handles all matters concerning tax, labour market contributions, real property valuations, VAT, duties etc. You can contact SKAT in the following ways:

  • Find information at www.skat.dk. Here you will also find Self-Key Citizen (TastSelv Borger), where you can change your preliminary income assessment and see your tax information in your tax folder.
  • Call SKAT on +45 72 22 18 18.
  • Write an email via www.skat.dk/kontakt.
  • You can also contact your municipal citizen service centre with questions concerning your tax as well as how to change your preliminary income assessment.

If you wish personal assistance at the tax centre

From 1 November 2013 you will only be able to receive personal assistance at a tax centre in special cases - and by appointment.

If you cannot find the answer you need at skat.dk, and if they cannot help you over the phone, SKAT will set up a personal appointment for you with one of their staff. You will be able to get an appointment within five working days.

You may go to any tax centre that you wish. See the tax centres closest to you on www.skat.dk - under Contact (Kontakt).

Visit SKAT at the International Citizen Service

SKAT is also present at International Citizen Service. In Aarhus the opening hours are Thursdays from 13.00-17.00 and Fridays from 9.00-13.00. You don't need to make an appointment to visit SKAT here. Read more about the International Citizen Service .
