AU Expat Partner Programme

Welcome to the Expat Partner Programme at Aarhus University. You may have left behind a promising career and a great network to pursue a new life and career in Denmark.
This can be challenging, and we are here to help you overcome the cultural barriers, job challenges, and other practical matters related to your relocation to Denmark.

About the Expat Partner Programme

The Expat Partner Programme provides customised career counselling to expat partners. You will be coached during the transition phase and can participate in network events to support your new life in Denmark.

Target group

The programme is offered to the spouses and partners of international researchers relocating to Denmark for a position at AU from postdoc level.

Why choose the Expat Partner Programme?

Moving to a new country is exciting and overwhelming, and involves many challenges. For many internationals the most important thing is to get a job and integrate through that. For others, the expatriation is a personal journey with opportunities of personal development and new professional insight, entering new social and professional networks, and better understand and navigate in the Danish culture and work-life balance.

We can help you to relaunch your career in Denmark and reframe yourself by finding new potential and competences.

Culture and career workshops and events

We organise a variety of workshops; and when our partners hold events and workshops that are relevant, we suggest that you participate as this will give you valuable insight from different perspectives. Such workshops can also be a great place to network with others in the same situation. You will gain a great deal of information about job seeking, networking and events.

  • Cultural awareness workshops
  • Danish culture and work culture
  • Networking with companies
  • Career development workshops

Our partners and networks

We hope you will join some of our many network sessions involving partners, companies and events. As a job seeker these sessions will give you the chance to meet with companies, HR professionals and other internationals in the same situation.

Our network of partners will also be available to you, with the focus on networking, seminars, events, contacts and knowledge sharing.

On a personal level you can participate in our social networks and gatherings, and we will provide you with information about international networks you can benefit from.

Business Region Aarhus and Aarhus University partnership

Business Region Aarhus and Aarhus University has joined forces and signed a partnership agreement. In this partnership, Business Region Aarhus supports expat partners/spouses of researchers at Aarhus University to find ordinary jobs, wage subsidy jobs and internships. The jobs are within public administration and private companies and organisations. Apart from gaining a foothold in the Danish labour market, the aim of the partnership is for the spouse/partner to develop a network and gain experience and knowledge of Danish workplace culture.

The Expat Partner Advisors

Marie Vorre Skydsgaard, Expat Partner Advisor

I have a background primarily in HR and have been working in different international companies. Before joining AU, I worked as Talent Acquisition Consultant at Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (f. Siemens Wind Power), recruiting various profiles to Denmark from all over the world. I have also gained valuable experience working with different start-ups as well as SMEs.

I am passionate about meeting people and supporting them to pursue higher well-being and guiding them towards career opportunities. Connecting people and networking is thus a very natural part of who I am. I live just outside Silkeborg with my husband and two children.

Catrine Rumohr, Relocation Officer & Expat Partner Advisor

I have a background in HR and global mobility from different international companies and have been working with people that move across borders – and the many challenges and opportunities that follow – throughout my career. I am originally from Norway and before moving to Denmark in 2007, I have also lived in England, Australia and Italy. I live just outside of Aarhus together with my boyfriend and our two children.

50% of my time is dedicated to Relocation Services and 50% towards supporting expat partners.
